As We Come Towards The End Of The Year
It may be a good time to sit down and take some time to look back at the year so far.
Why Reflection is an important part of self-development and growth.
Reflection allows us to gently observe and understand our own experiences. By doing this, we can notice patterns, celebrate strengths, and identify growth. This process isn’t about self-criticism, it’s a way to deepen our connection & understanding of who we are. When we reflect, we create an opportunity to give context to ourselves. It is also a chance to celebrate the progress we've made & acknowledge any challenges we’ve faced. It’s the practice of being able to sit with yourself and listen, just as we would with a loved one.
Looking back does not mean we need to stay in the past.
Reflection is about looking at the past to gain insight, not to live in it. Our past can give us valuable information, but you don’t need to carry the weight of everything you have been experienced. Healing means giving ourselves permission to take what we need from the past versions of ourselves without letting it define us or hold us back. Moving forward is not about ignoring the past or having no accountability for the part we may have played in it. It means integrating what we have learnt into the present so we can become more connected to ourselves in a congruent way.
Wisdom does not come from doing everything right.
True wisdom grows from the willingness and ability to learn and adapt, not from being perfect. Mistakes and setbacks are part of the human experience and can teach us so much about who we are. They can often teach us more than our successes can. When we let go of the need to get everything right, we create space for curiosity & self-compassion. Moments of struggle can deepen our understanding of ourselves and for others. If we allow it, wisdom can be the inheritance of our mistakes & setbacks, there is richness in this if we allow ourselves to reflect and learn. Doing this can open the door to inner strength, resilience, and the courage to try again.
